Navigating the Map Platform

The Pivvot Map platform is built atop Google Maps. If you are familiar with using Google Maps then you will recognize many similarities. The information below will provide an overview for how to navigate the Pivvot Map platform.

1. Changing site views

A user may be assigned to one or many site views. To toggle between site view:

  1. Click the Site View drop down.
  2. Choose Site View.

If you do not see a site view you are expecting you may need to toggle your account in the Profile drop down or contact your Pivvot administrator to assign you to the site view.

2. Set Default site view

You can customize Map to always open to a specific Site View.

  1. Select the desired Site View.
  2. At the top right, click User profile.
  3. Toggle on Make Site Default.

3. Zoom to extent when switching site views

After switching to another site view Map can, optionally, zoom to its extent.

  1. Select the desired Site View.
  2. At the top right, click User profile.
  3. Toggle on Zoom to Site View

4. Zoom to my location

Zoom to my location is a standard Google Maps feature. When this button is clicked it will change the map extent by zooming to the current location of the device. It may be necessary to authorize to use your computer or device’s location.

  1. Select the desired Site View.
  2. At the top right, click User profile.
  3. Toggle on Track My Location

5. Using Map Layers

To access the layer list:

  • Click the Layer icon .

To toggle layers on/off to display:

  • Check and un-check the eye icon to the left of the layer name.

To view the layer's legend:

  • Click the arrow to the right of the layer name, or select on the layer name.

Layer names that appear as gray text means the layer features are not fully visible at the current zoom scale. Once the desired zoom level is met, by zooming in or out, the text changes to blue.

6. Background Display

The background map can be either the standard Google Map Street view or the Google Satellite view.

  1. At the bottom left, click the Map/Satellite toggle.
  2. Choose Map or Satellite.
  3. Optional:
    1. If viewing Map, hover over the Map toggle. You can check the box to include Terrain.
    2. If viewing Satellite, hover over the Satellite toggle. You can check the box to turn Labels on/off.

7. Google Street view

Street View is a standard Google Maps feature which is leveraged in the platform to provide users a ground-level perspective of many locations around the United States.

  1. At the bottom right, click and drag Pegman  to the desired location.
  2. Unclick to drop Pegman.
  3. To leave Street View, go to the top left within the map and click the Back arrow.

8. Viewing KML/KMZ files in Map

You can view KML or KMZ layers in your current browser session. Pivvot supports opening files from both Google Drive or your local hard drive. Follow these steps to load a KML/KMZ layer:

IMPORTANT:

  • The limit in Google Maps for KMLs is 5mb. Since KMZ are a compressed version of a KML you will need to convert the KMZ to a KML format to know it's true file size.
  • If you are interested in viewing and editing a Redlining layer please use the Open feature in the Redlining tool. (details on Redlining can be found here)
  1. Open Layers .
  2. Click KML Layer to display Upload KML Options.
  3. Choose your Drive or Local.
  4. Navigate to the KML/KMZ file.
  5. Select the file.
  6. Click Select/Open.
