Managing Redline Layers

Redlining features are assigned to a redlining layer. You can create your own layer(s) or use the default redlining layer. Users can create multiple redlining layers to help manage their features.

IMPORTANT: These layers and associated features will be removed once the browser session has ended. See the Export Features section if you wish to save these layers.

Create layer

  1. Click Tools.
  2. Activate the Redline tool .
  3. Click the Layers tab.
  4. Click the “Create Redlining Layer” button.

You can modify the layer name at any time by typing directly in the layer box.

Delete layer

  1. Click Tools.
  2. Activate the Redline tool .
  3. Click the Layers tab.
  4. Click the Trash icon to the right of the Layer.

Creating a Redline Feature 

  1. Activate the Redline tool .
  2. Click on Feature tab and choose a redline or the annotation tool.
  3. Left click to define the shape and location of the graphic. Double click to finish feature.
  4. Add a Name and Description in the Redline dialog. Each feature will have its own name and description.

Note: To disable the redlining tool click the redlining tool in the Tool dialog.

Editing a Redline Feature

Users can edit existing features. This includes deleting or moving an individual vertex or entire geometry or modifying the name and description text.

  1. Activate the Redline tool .

Move feature

  1. Click Select  .
  2. Left click and hold on feature.
  3. Drag to new location.

Modify shape of feature

  1. Click Select  .
  2. Left click and hold on vertex.
  3. Drag to new location.

Delete vertex

  1. Single click on solid vertex.

Exporting Redline Features

Features can be exported to a KML format. Features will be removed once a browser session has ended, therefore it will be necessary to export the redlining features if you want to view them in a future session or share with others. Each redlining layer will be saved as an individual KML file. Users can export features to Google Drive or your local hard drive.

  1. Activate the Redline tool
  2. Click the Layer tab.
  3. Click the download button (local hard drive or Google Drive) to the right of the redline layer. Learn more about Configuring Chrome's Download Location. 
  • Local - The download file location is configured in Chrome settings.
