Map Tools

There are two Map Tools to assist you in your workflows: Measure and Redlining.

To access the Map Tools click on the  icon on the top right section of the map display. This will expand the Map Tools window.

Measure Tool

The Measure Tool can be used to calculate distance and/or area.

  1. Click Measure .
  2. Select your units for distance and area.
  3. Left click on the map where you want to start measuring.
  4. Left click new location(s) on the map to extend path. The measure graphic will extend to this new location and the cumulative distance will be reported on both the map and within the Map Tools window. Notice that a semi-transparent point is created at each segment’s mid-point.

To modify or remove the path:

  • Delete a point: Double click on any of the solid white points you wish to remove.
  • Move a point: Left click and hold left click down on a point (end or mid) and drag it to a new location.
  • Remove / Clear / Stop measurement: Click Measure  icon again to clear your points and calculated distances. You can also click the "Reset" icon at the bottom of the Map Tools window.

Redline Tool

The Redline Tool allows Map users to mark-up the Site View with notes, comments, and suggested edits. Redlining provides users an easy process for collaboration and project overview.

Users create their comments, suggested edits, and Map drawings (features created by generating points, lines, and/or polygons on the map) using the "Feature" tab. Created Features will be assigned to a Layer, as seen on the "Layer" tab. Layers can then be exported as a KML to share with others.

IMPORTANT: Layers, and associated features, will be automatically removed once the browser session has ended. If you close Map, your Redlines will not be saved. You must export your Layers to save your Redlines. See the Export Redline Features section below if you wish to save these layers.

1. Create & Edit Redline Features

Create a Redline Feature

  1. Activate the Redline Tool.
  2. Click on Feature tab and choose the Redline feature you wish to add:
    1. Point
    2. Line
    3. Polygon
    4. Comment
  3. Left click on the map to create the Feature at the desired location on the map. Double click to finish and complete the feature.
  4. Select the Redline Layer from the dropdown menu that the Feature will be assigned to. If you have not previously created any Redline Layers, you can only add Features to the Default Layer. To create additional Layers, please start with creating a Redline Layer. See instructions for Redline Layers below.
  5. Create a Name for your Feature.
  6. Add a Description for your Feature.

Edit and/or View Redline Feature

  1. Be sure the Redline Toolis activated.
  2. Click the Select  icon.
    1. View Redline Feature: Left click on the Feature, or a point of the Feature
    2. Move Redline Feature: Left click and Hold on the Feature. Drag to new location on the map.
    3. Modify Shape of Redline Feature: Left click and Hold an individual point (vertex) of the Feature. Drag to a new location on the map.
    4. Delete a Redline Feature:
      1. Left click on the Feature. Select the "Delete Feature" trash icon in the Map Tools window
      2. Note: when selecting a point (vertex) on a line or polygon feature, that vertex will be removed.

Export Redline Features

Exporting Redline Features is necessary to save your Redlines. See instructions for Exporting Redline Features below, in Create & Manage Redline Layers.

2. Create & Manage Redline Layers

Redlining features are assigned to a redlining layer. You can create your own layer(s) or use the default redlining layer. Users can create multiple redlining layers to help manage their features.

IMPORTANT: These layers and associated features will be removed once the browser session has ended. See the Export Redline Features section below if you wish to save these layers.

Create a Redline Layer

  1. Activate the Redline Tool.
  2. Click on Layer tab
  3. Click on "New Layer" and create the name for that layer.
  4. Use the toggle switch to turn on/off the Layers you wish to display on the map.

Delete Redline Layer

  1. Activate the Redline Tool.
  2. Click on Layer tab
  3. Click on the "trash can" icon next to any Layer you wish to delete.

Export Redline Features

Features can be exported to a KML format. Features will be removed once a browser session has ended, therefore it will be necessary to export the redlining features if you want to view them in a future session or share with others. Each redlining layer will be saved as an individual KML file. Users can export features to Google Drive or your local hard drive.

  1. Activate the Redline Tool.
  2. Click on Layer tab
  3. Click on the "download" icon next to any Layer you wish to download. Downloads are in KML format.
